2024 GMC Canyon Models, Colors, Specs – If you’re looking for a midsize pickup truck, look no further than the 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab, a model considered Sierra’s younger brother. This is a great option if you’re in the market for a pickup truck but could do with one about half the size. Based on the same chassis as Colorado, the Canyon is a more luxurious Colorado. GMC offers the Canyon Crew Cab in two different Elevation trim levels. Start at $28,700 and go up to $37,300 for the top-tier Elevation model.
The Canyon’s popularity has been growing steadily as more people realize this midsize pickup’s great value and potential at a reasonable price. It has a 3.6L V6 engine, 18″ black-painted aluminum wheels, a solid towing capacity, and a well-built interior. For those who want to personalize their Canyon even further, GMC provides a long list of different packages and add-ons from which to choose. Competition for the 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab comes from models like the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, and Ford Ranger SuperCrew.
2020 GMC Canyon Redesign
Last year, GMC made some minor cosmetic updates to the Canyon, notably a new grille design that gives the car a bit more presence. There is a more rugged appearance (AT4) or a more ostentatious one (AT5) (Denali). The standard model rides on wheels that measure 18 inches in diameter, the AT4 is distinguished by its 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels, and the Denali rides on wheels that measure 20 inches in diameter and feature a diamond-cut machined finish. Daytime running lamps, halogen projector-beam headlamps, and signature LED lighting is standard on all models. Black doorknobs and non-electric, fixed mirrors characterize the entry-level trim. The AT4’s top-tier model features LED cargo box lighting, dark chrome exterior finishes, and red recovery hooks. The tailgate on all but the base trim is equipped with an EZ-Lift design that makes it easier to open and close. Denali owners can now buy a Denali Black Edition package with all-black wheels and exterior trim to make their flagship model look more sinister and covert.
Summit White is the only standard color on any of the trim levels. To get the lowest-priced Elevation Standard trim in Onyx Black and two metallic colors (Satin Steel and Dynamic Blue), you’ll need to fork over an extra $495. Desert Sand Metallic is $495, and Cayenne Red Tintcoat is $645 for the next trim level, the Elevation. The AT4 can eliminate Dynamic Blue above this threshold. Last but not least, the Denali now comes in Hunter Metallic for an extra $495. This dark blueish-gray color provides a nice contrast to Denali’s extensive chrome. This Canyon AT4 was finished in a stunning Cayenne Red tint coat. Do you think the additional $645 is fair? One’s tastes and a little giving and take are the only determinants.

The dealer installed AT4 badges, off-road rocker protection, and black performance exhaust on our Crew Cab, and we also got 17-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, red tow hooks, a mid skid plate, and a spray-on bed liner. We prefer the styling of this model over the corporate Chevy Colorado and think it’s a lot more attractive. Compared to the extended bed length (74 inches in this case), the standard bed shown here measures just 61.7 inches. Our research indicated that the average bed size was sufficient for most purposes.
Engine
The 2024 Canyon is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission in the base trim. The engine produces 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. It’s not precisely a fireball, and its acceleration is decidedly leisurely, but it serves a purpose as a more budget-friendly option. Compared to the base six-speeder, the 3.6-liter V6 with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft is much more capable of propelling the Canyon with verve. It also comes standard with an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission. This is the best powertrain in the lineup because it quickly accelerates the Canyon to highway speeds and has sufficient passing power. The 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft is the best option if you need maximum towing capacity. However, in everyday driving, it is not as enjoyable as the V6. Although the AT4’s V6 engine gets the job done adequately, we’d recommend the diesel for its superior fuel economy and towing capacity. The bad news? Due to the high cost of diesel, expect an additional $4,000 to $6,000 to be added to your budget.
Money-wise, The Canyon measures up favorably to its contemporaries. The EPA estimates that the 2WD turbodiesel achieves 20/30/23 mpg in the city, on the highway, and in the combined cycles, making it the most fuel-efficient option. Not bad, but not as good as the 22/28/24 mpg offered by the Jeep Gladiator diesel, which only comes with a heavier 4×4 system. The Canyon’s 2.5-liter base engine achieves a best of 19/25/22 mpg, while the V6 engine, while the least fuel-efficient, suffers only slightly at the pumps compared to the 2.5L, achieving only 18/25/21 mpg in 2WD form. All models have a 21-gallon fuel tank, giving them a maximum range of 483 miles (when using the diesel engine).
2024 GMC Canyon Release Date and Price
The base price of a 2024 GMC Canyon is about $26,800, which is pretty high for a compact pickup truck. The base price for the Elevation trim is $30,300, while the base price for the AT4 edge is $38,400. Premium Denali models begin at $41,200. Summer 2023 in the United States will see the debut of the GMC Canyon.
